Winter Fun

Trent loves to play with Cayden and Ashton! I think...no... I know he has more fun than both of the kids put together. This winter he couldn't wait to take them both sledding...so one day while we were all up in South Jordan we pulled out the plastic sled and geared up in the marshmallow suits and headed out for some fun in the snow!

I never thought the day would come that Trent would get tired quicker than the kids...but you have to admit, they had it pretty easy here. Trent would make his rounds and stop for a breather and Cayden would pipe up, "Again!" So now it's my turn...

Cayden was having so much fun the whole time...belly laughing from inside all his layers... that we didn't really bother looking at him. It wasn't until we were getting ready to go inside that we noticed that we had been kicking snow up on him the whole time. It was a Dumb and Dumber moment...snot frozen on his upper lip and drool frozen on his chin.

I saw this pose in a yoga magazine and I ripped the page out cause I thought it would be cool if I could learn how to do it. I showed it to Trent and he was like, "oh, I could do that" and he did it...with short shorts on...wtf?

THE BOX...

Trent brought this huge box home from work and cut a door and windows in it. Cayden loved it so much that he practically lived in it for a couple weeks...then I had to throw it out cause it was taking up our whole living room.

When I went to get this little guy up one morning I found him like this...he had somehow smuggled his shoes into his crib and put them on...kind of

I don't give as good of rides as dad does...this was right after I had my wisdom teeth out, so excuse my swollen cheeks

My mom and dad wanted to get some family pictures, so we went up Provo Canyon and to Utah Lake to take a few with my dad's camera. It was super cold outside, but we bundled up and got some cute ones....

The lake had frozen over, so of course Trent had to try and break through the ice. His plan was to find the biggest rock around and then throw it as high as he possibly could...

....either Trent is "THE MAN", or the ice just wasn't that thick, cause he did break through. If you ask him, he'll tell ya the first is true, and if ya ask me...I'm not really sure.

Cayden loves to put all his rings on his arms and then walk around with them....he is easily entertained

As Cayden was sitting on the step at my parent's house he would say someone's name, then pat the floor next to him and say "right there" until you went and sat by him. He did this for everyone until we were all surrounding him on the step...then he got up and left.

Trying to teach him how to use a spoon...at least he got one end in his mouth, right?

Cayden reminds me of Trent more and more everyday. I have a feeling I am going to have my hands full before too long....

Cayden turned 1-year-old on August 19th. How did he get so old so fast?

He started taking his first steps just a couple days before his first birthday. Now I can barely keep up with him! I can't imagine how easy life must have been before he could walk!

Lake Powell

Dave and Cathy invited us to go to Lake Powell with them last summer...and all I can say is WOW! We had such a blast! Here are some photos for you to enjoy...

We ran right out and bought Cayden a life jacket. We were just too excited to wait for the lake, so we had to practice in the bath tub. Cayden loved it! He would kick off the bottom of the tub with his feet and the pillow would bounce him off the top, back down to the bottom. This is hours of fun for a 1 year old.

Trent couldn't wait to take Cayden in the water. It was a little colder than the tub though, I'm not too sure what Cayden thought...

The Young's have lots of traditions in Lake Powell. One is that all the girls paint the guys' toenails on the first day. I bet you can guess who's signature feet these are. I felt a little bad about totally destroying Trent's masculinity, so I thought I would surprise him and give him a Dallas Cowboys pedicure...however there was no navy blue, so I had to use teal, and there was no white, so I had to use pink. My stars look more like flowers...and I'm a sucker for sparkles, so I couldn't pass up the glitter top coat.

So I thought we found this bat stuck in one of the propellers, but as Trent was reading the post he told me that isn't true. He said that HE is the one that found the bat and it was floating in the water, so he put it in a cup. Personally, I think the propeller story is better, but he said it doesn't make sense because why would we be under the boat by the propeller? But then again why would anyone put a dead bat in a cup?

Cayden would wake up each morning at about 7:30, before everyone else. Trent and I would take him out on the rocks to play so he wouldn't wake everybody up. He thought it was cool his mom and dad were letting him get dirty

The lake water was cold, so we would fill up the little pool with warm water from the shower and Cayden would play in it all day. He LOVED the pink pool!

On the last night there is always a huge speed tournament. Here's Trent, Champion of the World, and Katie, 2nd place. No comment....other than I want a rematch.

We went to Costa Rica over the summer to visit Brent, Jimena, and Jeronimo. Brent's house is amazing and we had an incredible time, like always! Of course we were having so much fun that we forgot to take pictures. The only pics we have are in the airplane and at the airport. :( We got some good video though!

Towards the end of the summer Trent competed in a sprint triathlon. He did an amazing job, finishing in just under an hour and taking 3rd place in his age group! Way to go Trent!

A couple years ago the Low's invited me to go with them on their scrapbooking trip for National Scrapbook Day. I had so much fun, so now I invite myself to go with them every year. We go visit Grandma and Grandpa Lloyd in Huntington Beach and scrapbook our brains out. Here are some pics from the trip....oh, and I just finished our Wedding Scrapbook! It only took me 3 years!

So, I'm pretty much the most unlucky person in the whole world. I don't think I have ever won a drawing in my whole life. The situation is even worse because I am surrounded by super lucky people (my in-law's to name a few) Anyway...Grandma Lloyd always has drawings through the day to give away scrapbook prizes. Well, of course my name didn't get drawn the whole day, so she told the 3 or 4 of us that didn't get a prize that we could go pick a sticker to make us feel better. Now we were going to pick for the grand prize, so she said that we were going to put all the names back in. I was complaining that we shouldn't put the names back in, and going on and on about how unlucky of a person I am. Cheryl was teasing me about how whiny I sounded as she drew the winning name, and you'll never believe it, but yes, it was my name on that paper! I won this beautiful picture frame! This is the BEST prize EVER!

Bob and Laurie gave us Lagoon Season Passes for Trent's birthday, so we have been hitting Lagoon like crazy. We have so much fun taking Cayden, even though he can't ride very many of the rides.

Having a kid of your own does funny things to you. Theme Parks have always been about riding as many life-threatening rollercoasters as you can in the shortest amount of time. Well, we have been to Lagoon 3 or 4 times already this season and we are yet to ride Wicked, or the Rocket. I dont' know why, but we just can't seem to pull ourselves away from the Carousel and the Train...

I have been meaning to update our blog for quite some time now, but I everytime I think about how long it's been since I posted I just can't get myself to do it. Not to mention that after being a full time wife, mom, and student, blogging isn't much of a priority in my life right now. So, the other night we were eating dinner and I got a piece of broccoli stuck in my teeth. We had to run out the door right after so Trent wouldn't be late for his soccer game, so I thought that I would just floss on my way. Well, I usually keep some floss in my car for this very reason, but when we got on the freeway I realize that it's not there! I had this bright idea that I would use a piece of my hair to floss it out. It apparently wasn't a very good idea because the hair broke in between the teeth and it was too tiny to pick out, so I had to leave it there until we got home and I could use some real floss. So I had to sit through the whole soccer game with a piece of broccoli AND a piece of hair stuck in my teeth!

St. George Trip

Last weekend my parents took Cayden for us so Trent and I could have some time to ourselves. We went to St. George and stayed at my Grandma's place...it was so fun! I can't believe how easy it was to do whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted, and not have to worry about what time naptime is, or if we had diapers and wipes and pacifiers, etc.

It was the perfect little break and although we had a great time, I think we were both more excited to see our little baby when it was time to come home then we were to leave.

Dave and Shawn invited Trent to go with them to Strawberry for some fishin'. Trent was SO excited to go catch himself some dinner. Everything's going pretty well. We are pretty sleep deprived though...I usually get about 3 hours each night. Hopefully he'll start sleeping longer. He just wants to be awake when the sun goes down. Cayden never entered the birth canal and I never started dilating, so we decided to have a C-Section. The doctor thought that he would be a very large baby and that I would have a hard vaginal delivery if we were to go that route. He was not as big as expected, but his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck 3 times, which was preventing him from dropping. We were able to get him out safe and sound and he is healthy as can be. He is such a mellow baby, and very alert. He looks just like his Dad. I can't believe he is FINALLY here! We couldn't be more happy with our little guy!

Today is our 2 year Anniversary. These have been the best 2 years of my life, and I am looking forward to the many more years to come. Trent is my hero and my best friend. He makes me a better person and I could not ask for more. He is a great husband, and he is going to be a wonderful father (if this baby ever decides to come out....today is also our due date.) I love you Trent, thank you for making me so happy.

Baby Update

Trent and I could not sleep last night. We were up late, anxious to find out whether or not we were going to have our baby today. There was a good chance that the doctor was going to induce labor. We went in for our appointment this morning and it looks like I am not dilated at all. We set another appointment for Monday. The doctor is going to stretch my cervix and then we will go to the hospital Monday night. We will probably deliver the baby on Tuesday. This is the new game plan, so I guess we'll see what happens. Babies are unpredictable, that's for sure.

Our Hike

In an attempt to induce labor, Trent and I decided to hike to the Y on the 7th, just 8 days before my due date. We were hoping to have the little guy on 8/8/8, only because he would have the coolest birthday ever. I will admit, we would take the cake for the longest hike in the history of all of the hikes to the Y, but eventually we made it. However, it is now the 11th, and I am still very pregnant.
